Actress Rahama Sadau Denies Arrest Report

Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN), has again suspended Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau, over “indecent dressing.”

Recall that on Sunday, November 2, 2020, Sadau caused a stir on internet after releasing pictures of herself, rocking a backless champagne gold gown, which accentuated her curves.

Just as one may have expected, the now-deleted pictures attracted admirers and critics. And for the latter, this didn’t go down well with them, as they unanimously said Sadau’s dressing in the pictures didn’t conform to the tenets of Islam.

Following the criticism that trailed the pictures, MOPAN has released a statement where it maintained its 2016 suspension on the Hausa movie star.

Recall that four years ago, the actress was expelled from Kannywood for hugging and cuddling in a music video.

Describing the backlash that trailed Sadau’s recent photos as “condemnable”, the umbrella body for northern filmmakers said her action had resulted in some blasphemous comments “against the holy prophet of Islam, Mohammed (SAW).”

The statement read further: “MOPPAN is deeply concerned about the recent pictures shared by Rahama Sadau on social media,” the statement read.

“They said pictures are trending on various social media platforms. The post has however sparked a lot of criticisms which resulted in blasphemous comments against the holy prophet of Islam, Mohammed (SAW) on Twitter.

“This, according to the MOPPAN national secretariat, is condemnable and unacceptable.

“It will be recalled that once on 2nd October 2016, the apex body of Northern filmmakers suspended the embattled Sadau in violation of the association’s rules and regulations for immoral behaviors leading to an on-screen hug.

“After two years, the Kano State Censorship Board (KSCB), gave Rahama an unconditional pardon to join her peers in Kannywood, a move that was countered by the state’s branch of MOPPAN on the 15th of January 2020.

“In this prevailing circumstance, MOPPAN hereby re-iterating its initial stand on Rahama Sadau and calling and calling all other Kannywood guilds to ensure compliance.

“It also calls on all professional bodies in Kannywood, the Hausa communities, and the diaspora to note that it has disassociated itself from Rahama Sadau’s insolence.”

The actress has however apologised for the pictures.

While maintaining that she received the criticism with mixed feelings, Sadau said her religion is where she draws the line.

“It’s sad and unfortunate waking up to a series of unexpected messages, tags & trends over the harmless pictures I posted. As a human, I laughed at some, frowned against many & disapproved most. To the most unfortunate event, some of these comments took a different dimension.

“I’m with all sense of sincerity, dissociating myself from such derogatory & hurtful words. To everyone who knows me or follows me, should know I’m not the type that reacts to anything or embrace advice from social media moral police. But my Prophet & religion is where I draw the line.

It’s in human nature to judge others and act as saint, I appreciate those who felt offended & decided to call me out through DM’s, Text messages & phone calls. That’s true love & I’m never taking that for granted. EVER!” she stated.
