Justin Bieber shaves hair off after being accused of cultural appropriation

Bieber cultural appropriation

Justin Bieber has shaved his hair off after social media users accused the pop star of cultural appropriation.

The Peaches singer, 27, faced a lot of criticism for wearing cornrows and locs in 2016. After Bieber apologised for cultural appropriation then; he again wore a style resembling a very hideous version of dreadlocks in April. Bieber posted 66 additional posts that showed him wearing the style into May.

Dreadlocks is a culturally Black hairstyle; and as everyone can tell, Justin Bieber, who co-opts many aspects of Black culture, is not Black. Following the backlash, Bieber debuted a buzzcut on Instagram on Monday, with a photo of himself and his wife Hailey.

Bieber didn’t give any reason for the new look or comment on the recent criticism. His photo caption simply said: “Happy Sunday.”

Justin Bieber is not the only one that has been accused of cultural appropriation. Kim Kardashian and her family have gotten a lot of backlash for stealing styles, ideas, AND body features from Black women. In 2020, Adele stirred controversy by wearing Bantu knots, an African hairstyle. The list goes on.
