Former ‘Empire‘ actor, Jussie Smollett is suing the city of Chicago for malicious prosecution. This is coming almost a year after he was charged of making a false report.
Despite the dismissal of all cases against Smollett, he is back with another case. He is accusing the Chicago police claiming he was the victim of mass public ridicule and harm. His claim came in a counter suit against the city of Chicago. The city is suing the actor to recover more than $130,000 that the police claimed they spent investigating Smollett‘s alleged attack.
In January, the 37 year old actor said he was violently attacked by two masked men who looped a noose around his neck and poured bleach on him. One he tagged ‘ racist and hate crime.’ Two Nigerian American brothers were later arrested by the police. The actor ran out of luck when they told the police that the attack was staged. Smollett still insists he was attacked by a white person and that the police lured the two brothers into lying.
Smollett‘s lawyer filled a response on Tuesday. It said that the city should not be allowed to recover costs from Smollett because it accepted $10,000 from him. The money was accepted “as payment in full in connection with the dismissal of the charges against him,” in addition to the victim’s claim of ridicule.
Chicago‘s Law Department have issued a statement concerning the suit. It said that the city will continue to pursue its efforts to recover the full cost of its investigation.
