Actor and singer Jussie Smollett appeared in court at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon for a brief hearing.
This development comes at the back of his indictment on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct after police alleged that he staged a racist and homophobic crime on himself.
The court session was held to decide if cameras would be allowed for his trial proceedings.
The presiding judge, Judge Leroy Martin Jr. approved cameras for the court appearance to come next Tuesday but went ahead to note that once a new judge with the final say on the issue of allowing cameras is assigned permanently to the case then his ruling might be rendered void.
Neither party objected to the presence of cameras in the courtroom.
Smollett, who appeared dressed in a suit and dress coat, was accompanied by his two brothers, his sister-in-law, and an assistant; he did not make any remarks during the brief hearing.
