Following the death of Christopher Plummer on Friday, actress Julie Andrews and many other stars took to social media to pay tribute to the Hollywood legend.

The actor, who famously played Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music, died at the age of 91 at his home in Connecticut with his wife of 53 years, Elaine Taylor, by his side, his manager confirmed to news outlets.

“The world has lost a consummate actor today and I have lost a cherished friend,” Andrews said about Plummer in a statement. “I treasure the memories of our work together and all the humor and fun we shared through the years. My heart and condolences go out to his lovely wife Elaine, and his daughter Amanda.”

The official Twitter account for The Sound of Music also shared a note on Plummer’s everlasting legacy.

Along with his famous portrayal of Captain von Trapp, Plummer took on many other notable roles throughout his decades-long career.

Plummer won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in Beginners in 2012, and starred in many great films; including All the Money in the World, The Last Station, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Knives Out, and many more.

Actor Chris Evans, who starred alongside Plummer in Rian Johnson’s 2019 film, Knives Out, said the actor’s death is “an unbelievable loss”. “Few careers have such longevity and impact,” he wrote.
