‘Star Wars’ Actor, John Boyega Partners Netflix In New Deal

British actor, John Adedayo Adegboyega professionally known as John Boyega has signed a deal to develop non-English language film projects with Netflix; focusing on West and East Africa.

As announced on Tuesday, the partnership is happening through Boyega’s Production company, UpperRoom Productions.

Boyega 27, expressing his delight said, “I am thrilled to partner with Netflix; to develop a slate of non-English language feature films focused on African stories.”

“My team and I are excited to develop original material. We are proud to grow this arm of our business with a company that shares our vision.”

According to Netflix, they “will develop film projects based on stories, cast, characters, crew, literary properties, mythology, screenplays; and/or other elements in or around African countries.”

The announcement is the latest sign that the streaming giant is upping its stake in original African content.

About two weeks ago, chief content officer Ted Sarandos and other high-level executives arrived in Lagos to announce details of their first Nigerian series.

However, the Star Wars actor got his first producer credit in 2016 for the film Pacific Rim: Uprising. Boyega has since joined the South African film God is Good as executive producer.

John Boyega is most popular for his role as Finn in the Star Wars series trilogy films; The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.
