Jeff Melu: How the Renaissance man transitioned from Engineering into the world of Art (EELive Exclusive Interview)

Jeff Melu is one of the most creative personnel in Nigeria. He is fast becoming a renaissance man in the Nigerian creative sector; an artist, fashion designer and recording artiste (also, a poet) transitioning the definition of design, creativity and style.

Initially studying Computer Engineering at Gateway Polytechnic in Ogun State, Melu has gradually carved a niche for himself in the entertainment industry.

In a new interview with EELive, the fashion designer and renaissance man spoke about how he became interested in the entertainment industry.

How did you develop interest in acting, painting and other creative endeavours?

Speaking during the session, “I have always known that ART has always been a part of me but growing up, my mother never believed in any future in the Arts and so I went ahead to study Computer Engineering.”

He continued, “I have always practiced all my art in small ways and places I could until I got to the acceptance that expressionism or the gospel through Art is why I am here, then I began to give it my full attention.”

What Is The Type Of Art You Create?

Jeff Melu said, “I often tell myself that I am not an Actor, a Singer, or a Painter. I am not even an Artist. I always say that I am ART. At the moment, I am a professional Actor, Singer, Poet, Painter, and Writer, but I will practice every other form of art before I leave this earth.”

What Are Your Visions?

Melu had this to say, “What you want to achieve with your artworks To through Art share to the world Hope, Peace, Love and Joy and subsequently, become a voice that inspires change globally

Melu had this say, “I would advise that the government recognize even greater than oil and agriculture the power for global development and change that Art holds, and then start to implement laws and support systems to aid the Arts and her practitioners. And as per Art in Nigeria improving, I believe that that would occur naturally as long as its growth isn’t intentionally frustrated.
