American music icon, Janet Jackson has released a teaser trailer for her upcoming documentary.
The two-night documentary titled “Janet,” is set to premiere in January 2022 in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Jackson’s first album. Her first album titled “Janet Jackson” was released in 1982 when she was 16.
In the teaser, Janet says “This is my story, told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes.” Her 1986 hit song, Control plays as the soundtrack. She also added, “This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”

The teaser also features Jackson’s friends and fellow celebrities such as Paula Abdul and Mariah Carey. They speak on their connection to the star as well as her career. “She’s an empowered woman,” said Carey. “She is a force to be reckoned with,” added Abdul. Members of the Jackson family also appear in the teaser. Clips of Janet with the late Michael Jackson as well as elder brother, Tito Jackson saying “She will always be my baby sister”. Janet’s Poetic Justice co-star Tupac Shakur also makes an appearance.
The four hour documentary has been in production for over five years. Janet is directed by Ben Hirsch, and boasts Janet Jackson and Randy Jackson as executive producers. Rick Murray executive produces for Workerbee and Brie Miranda Bryant serves as executive producer for A&E Networks.
The documentary follows Janet Jackson as her family deals with the loss of their father, Joseph, who passed away in 2018. It also shows archival footage and detailed accounts of some of the her biggest moments, including her famous 2004 Super Bowl appearance with Justin Timberlake, which sparked controversy that has followed her till date.
