I’m the Jesus of Nigerian music- Terry G

Nigerian singer, Gabriel Amanyi popularly known as Terry G has never been shy about flaunting his music skills, but his latest claim is a bold one. ”I’m the Jesus of Nigerian music,” the “Akpako” crooner crowned himself in an interview with Channels TV.

Terry G proclaimed himself as the “Jesus” of Nigerian music, claiming he set the pace and sacrificed for the present trend in the Nigerian music industry.

He added that many Nigerians are hypocritical as they have come to support most of the things they criticised him for doing as an artiste in the past.

In his words: ”I’m the Jesus of Nigerian music, I’m not the Christ. The Christ is the savior, Jesus is a name, and for the fact that Jesus is the most popular name that died for us and sacrificed for us.

It took me a while to take this risk that a lot of persons discriminated against me for and now, they see people smoking, doing stuff and nobody is talking. There must be a pace-setter.”

Comparing himself to Naira Marley, Terry G admitted that it was not in his place to decide whether he was more influential than Naira Marley.

Widely known for his eccentric dress-sense, controversial lyrics and awkward identity, Terry G who doubles as a music producer is literally one of the world’s weirdest singers .

The “Akpako master”, as he is fondly called, received critical acclaim for his unique brand of music and personality. Through his songs, he has admitted to using drugs and alcohol. In 2012, he released his fourth album, titled Book of Ginger and in September 2014, he revealed in an interview that he has stopped taking hard drugs. He has cited Nigerian music legend 2baba Idibia as his greatest musical mentor.
