Tracee Elle Ross, American actress and television host, has opened up about societal pressures to marry and her “joyful acceptance” of her single life at 47. Ross spoke in an intimate onstage conversation with Oprah Winfrey at her 2020 vision tour in Dallas, Texas.

The Black-ish star shared that it is her decision to be happily single with no children at 47. She said:

Like many of us was taught to grow up dreaming of my wedding and not of my life. And I spent many years dreaming of my wedding and also waiting to be chosen.

‘Well, here’s the thing. I’m the chooser and I can choose to get married if I want to. But in the meantime, I’m choicefully single. Happily, gloriously single.

On Comparison to Diana Ross

Ross revealed that one of her dreams was to be a professional singer, but it was also her biggest fear. The comparison to her award-winning mom, Diana Ross, would be hard, she said.

“We all have fears. We all have these things that we’ve hidden away that we think are not worthy of coming forward. They might not be good enough. They might be compared to somebody else,” Ross said.

“And I had to realize that it’s not the sound of my voice, it’s the honesty of my voice that is the key. I’m not supposed to sound like my mom. … I’m not even supposed to be her. I can’t fill her shoes. No one can fill her shoes.”

Singing professionally for the first time for an upcoming film, The High Note, out this May, Ross told the crowd how she shared the experience with her mother.

“I got her in the car, and the first note happened … She pushed my arm; she turned to me, her face was covered in tears. And she said, ‘Finally.’”

Tracee Ellis Ross who was recently linked to television writer and producer, Kenya Barris is the daughter of actress and Motown recording artiste Diana Ross and ex-husband Robert Ellis Silberstein.
