Media personality, Toke Makinwa has spoken about her personal experience of always falling out of favour with the mothers of several of the guys she dated.
Makinwa, 35, made this revelation while on the episode of her talk show with Uti Nwachukwu, an actor and presenter.
She referenced her personal story while speaking on matters pertaining to career, building relationship and trust with seemingly uncommitted partners, and getting along with the mothers of one’s date.
“All the guys I have dated, I don’t think their mums liked me. I don’t know what I did. I have dated someone whose mother always prayed for me to find my own husband (not her son),“ Toke said.
“As I was dating her son, she will tell me, God will provide your own husband,” I was like, “Mummy, but I have been with your son”. And she will say it again. And I honestly moved on.
Speaking further, she spoke of her failed marriage and also, how she almost married a guy in London due to desperation to earn UK citizenship.
“I don’t know how I decided to walk down the aisle with someone I didn’t trust; At that point the relationship was already doomed.”
And on issues relating to career, Toke admonishes youth to take life easy. She said that not knowing is the first step to finding out what you are good at. “I remember the start of last decade, I was broke, jobless, crying everyday and waiting on bank to call me back.”
She was grateful the bank didn’t confirm her appointment or else it would have altered the course of her career direction.
