Nigerian actress, Elvina Ibru, says she was viewed as an irresponsible person for choosing acting as a career.

The actress stated this in a chat The Punch.

According to the actress, the people who viewed her irresponsible were not strangers but family members.

She then stated that her father was scared because of high risk in acting.

Ibru said “Yes. However, it did not come from strangers, but from some of my family members, especially my father. But, I wouldn’t use the word ‘irresponsible’; rather, he thought I was taking too much risk depending on acting as a career.”

When asked about the progress made so far my Nollywood, she said “I will say we are doing reasonably well, considering all the challenges we have had to deal with over the years. However, our progress is very fast.

“If you look at the history of Bollywood (India) and Hollywood (United States of America), they have been existing for over 100 years. I don’t think the world should expect us to be as great as them after only about 40 years. However, I will like to see more of own stories being told.”

In 2020, Elvina Ibru said being the daughter of Michael Ibru didn’t open doors for my acting career.

She said “Being the daughter of Michael Ibru didn’t open doors for my acting career. As a matter of fact, it’s the complete opposite.”

“The important message is that people should not think that having a wealthy father makes one’s career easy. It is not easy for anybody. One has to be talented and hard-working. I know that one day people would start seeing that this is what I’m good at.”

“People think I’m acting because it’s a hobby. They don’t think that I work for a living.  They also think that huge bags of money are delivered to my doorstep every week.”
