Nigerian Singer, Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy of the defunct group ‘Psquare’, has let fans in on some interesting facts about his life and career.
Speaking on Accelerate TV’s “The Whole Truth”, Paul talked about challenges facing him as a “celebrity” including floating a new record label after the break-up of P-Square.
Interestingly, he also disclosed that his entrance into the Nigerian music industry was initially a struggle for him, as he also had interest in football.
He said: “At first I faced music when I realized I was spending more money on soccer and I really faced it after Nigeria won in Tunisia back then and they were promised cars and houses, But again after sometime I fell back to the music.”
On surviving in the music industry despite financial hurdles, he disclosed that stealing from his mother became the only option for him at a point.
“My first time in the studio I had planned to record just one song but I became so moved immediately I got in the Boothe and ended up recording 3 songs.”
“Instead of a bill of 8000Naira i ended up with a bill of 70 something thousand and it was at that stage I started to steal my mum’s money to record and she caught me red-handed.”
“She asked me what I wanted the money for and I told her but instead of scolding me she went with me to the studio, listened to the songs and paid for the session.”
