While we wait for the much-anticipated lifetime biopic of Wendy Williams, titled Wendy Williams: The Movie, the popular American TV host has shared never-before-told story of how she was raped by late R&B singer Sherrick, an artiste from the 1980s.
The 56-year-old entertainer brought this revelation to light while promoting her upcoming movie on Tuesday. She said that she met Sherrick during an interview.
“He mesmerized me with his twinkling eyes,” she told reporters. “He flipped the interview around to where he was interviewing me — I was just gaga over this man and he asked me to go to an opening party, an album release party, with him that night.”
“And before the party, I was date raped by him,” she continued, sharing that she was also date raped when she was in college.
“Those types of things happen to girls all the time,” Williams added. “And they’ve been happening a lot, to a lot of our mothers, grandmothers, great-great-grandmothers and their great-great-grandmothers, too.”
In another interview with Daily News on Wednesday, Williams recounted the late 1980s experience: “His name was Sherrick and he was a one-hit wonder, remember the song. It was called ‘Just Call’ and it was number one on the R&B charts and an overnight sensation.
“He was in D.C. I was a cute radio DJ. He’d asked me did I want to accompany him to his album release celebration in D.C. and I said ‘yes.’ I got off the air and went back to his hotel room with him.
“He said he wanted to shower and freshen up and introduced cocaine to the scene. I was already familiar with cocaine so I was continuing to party while he was in the shower. And I was sitting on the bed minding my own business.

“…So his name really didn’t even matter. But I’ll never forget his name,” she continued. “And you know, and now that I’ve said it, and I’m still on TV, now his kids and their kids and their kids are gonna have to deal with that. I was raped by Sherrick.”
After a substance abuse battle, Sherrick was reported to have died on Jan. 22, 1999, at the age of 41 of unknown causes.
Wendy Williams: The Movie will revisit some of the TV personality’s toughest experiences; including her struggle with substance abuse and her divorce from her husband of 21 years, Kevin Hunter.
The movie stars Ciera Payton as Williams, with Morocco Omari playing Williams‘ ex-husband.
Wendy Williams and Hunter split after the latter fathered a child with his mistress.
