New twist comes up in Britney Spears Conservatorship battle

Britney Spears, pop icon and songwriter has opened up about some of what’s she’s faced under her father’s conservatorship.

The artiste claims that she was forced to take birth control pills and prevented from having another child. In a court hearing on 23 June, Spears said that the conservatorship was “abusive”. The pop star also added that she wanted it to end without the need for a medical assessment.

She said she has been forced to work against her will, and that the conservatorship stopped her from removing a contraceptive device in order to try for another child.

Britney Spears has not performed on a stage since 2018. That won’t change anytime soon as she’s said there’ll be no performances while still under her father’s control.

The 39-year-old shared her thoughts in the damning post.

She wrote,

“For those of you who choose to criticize my dancing videos… look I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think!!! I’ve done that for the past 13 years. I’d much rather share videos YES from my living room instead of onstage in Vegas where some people were so far gone they couldn’t even shake my hand.”

The post on Instagram is one of many posts the singer has made about the court ruling allowing the conservatorship. However, Spears has said multiple times that she wants nothing more than for it to end.

In what seems like a first step to freedom for the singer, she’s been authorized to choose her own attorney for her next court hearing in September.

Friends and fans of Britney Spears’ music have now launched the #FreeBritney campaign. The campaign is a movement to end what they regard as an abusive conversatorship arrangement.

You may recall that this conversatorship began back in 2008, after the singer’s father, James Spears petitioned a court seeking for legal authority over her life, stating concerns about her mental health as his major reason.

Documentaries about her life, including Framing Britney Spears, which has been nominated for two Emmy awards, along with the #FreeBritney movement have further popularized the conservatorship.
