Nigerian Afrobeats singer Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has shared some fascinating insights into his life, from his struggles before fame to his experiences with global icons.

In a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, Fireboy DML revealed that he was on the verge of becoming a petty trader, selling rechargeable lamps under Ajah Bridge in Lagos, before his life took a dramatic turn. It was Olamide, the ace rapper and music executive, who signed him to YBNL Nation in 2018, catapulting him to stardom.

In his exact words, “Thank God for that [Olamide signing me]. I was considering selling rechargeable lamps. I met one guy under Ajah Bridge, he was telling me about the business and I told him I was interested.”

“To me, at the time, it was more dignified. At least, people will call you a lamp seller but selling pepper soup is crazy, bro. My parents didn’t know I was doing menial jobs. It was crazy but now, we thank God.”

Fireboy DML also opened up about his tattoos, which have become a point of contention with his father. The singer confessed that he wears jalabiya to hide his tattoos whenever his dad visits, fearing that his father might never forgive him for tattooing his body.

“One thing that I would do that can break my dad’s heart? I think I already did; my tattoos. Whenever he comes to visit me, I’m always on jalabiya, fully covered. Because tattoos, they break his heart every time he sees them,” he said.

“My dad doesn’t have a problem with my piercing but these tattoos? He will never forgive me for these things.”

“But even if I had ended up as a banker, I would still have still had tattoos. It is not even about being an artist for me, I’m just that kind person. I see it as an art. Because sometimes, I want to be shirtless and still look like I am dressed up. I want to wear a singlet and stop into a place and still have a presence. That is what tattoos are to me.”

In another surprising revelation, Fireboy DML shared his experience of going on a date with legendary American pop star Madonna. Describing the 66-year-old icon as a “crazy woman,” Fireboy hinted at the fun they had together, leaving fans intrigued about the details of their encounter.

“Madonna took me on a date, she paid for the bills. I offered but… It’s Madonna, mehn. Allowed!

“The things that we discussed on that date, the dynamics were different. It was refreshing for me. I was able to see things from a different perspective like, ‘Okay, so that’s what it feels like to be taken out on a date?”

“I can’t discuss all the details for not so obvious reasons. But, it was very crazy. She is a crazy woman.”

Recall that in 2022, the legendary American pop star featured Fireboy in a remix of her 1998 classic, ‘Frozen’ and shot the video in the United States.
