Nick Cannon has lost his faith in marriage since divorcing his ex, singer Mariah Carey, years ago.
In an interview with ET Online, the 39-year-old television host and actor made confessed: “I don’t believe in marriage anymore. My mindset has changed. I have done that. I don’t like doing things that I am not good at.”
Reflecting on the lasting effects of the separation, Cannon said:
“If you jumped out of a plane on time and it did not work out-you would not do it again, would you? I barely survived. Why would I jump out of the plane again?”
He continued: “I mean, I am still working. I am growing. I was a broken soul, but now I am back out on the scene. I’m trying to fix myself. I’m trying to be the best dad I can be, the best entrepreneur and young media mogul that I can be. So I’m really just focused on me and being the best. Because for some reason I haven’t gotten this relationship thing right. I’m not good at it. I don’t like doing stuff that I’m not good at.”
Cannon‘s confession came just before he was heading on a blind date with a listener from his Power 106 radio show, “Nick Cannon Mornings.” He shared that while he does not see himself taking on the role of a husband again, he is focused on fatherhood and his career.
Nick Cannon’s interview with People
In a previous interview with People magazine in January 2018, Cannon, who also has a two-year-old son, Golden with Brittany Bell revealed that he still has ‘unconditional love’ for Mariah Carey despite their divorce.
The Wild ‘n Out host said: “It’s funny when they say “co-parenting — that phrase is a little redundant. You can’t co-parent, you have to parent, and that’s what we do well because when it comes to our children. We’re selfless individuals — they’re first.
“You’re reminded that it’s all about unconditional love and they’ve got to understand that to its core.
“Whenever we can show that – even if we’re not together, [that] we love each other unconditionally — and become that fine example to our children, they’ll grow up to be good human beings, hopefully.“
Cannon and Carey got married in April 2008 and share 8-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan. They announced their split in 2014, and finalised their divorce in 2016.
After the divorce, Mariah Carey was briefly engaged to billionaire James Packer, 52, before starting up a romance with her current dancer-boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, 36.
