“I didn’t audition for my role in King of Boys”- Toni Tones

BY LOUISE

It was tough being accepted as an actor because people knew me as a photographer and after then, a musician. Hearing that I was an actor as well, I think it was hard for them to take me seriously initially- Toni Tones

Toni Tones made an unmistakable mark in Nollywood with her critically acclaimed performance in the 2018 box-office roof breaker, ‘King of Boys.’ This year however is definitely THE YEAR of Toni Tones, as she is giving no chills to her brake system.

In an in-depth interview with Aura Magazine, the multi-talented actress gives readers a privileged glimpse into her artistry, living life purposefully, as well as her hopes, dreams, and ambitions.

“It was tough being accepted as an actor because people knew me as a photographer and after then, a musician. Hearing that I was an actor as well, I think it was hard for them to take me seriously initially. It seemed like having more than one career was looked upon as a bit of a crime; people tend to be more comfortable putting you in a box… but I was determined to break the box, I’m not here to make anyone comfortable, I’m here to achieve”

On landing a role in “King of Boys”, she had this to say: “That was thanks to Kemi Adetiba. I heard she was making a film and Kemi is a director I had been dying to work with. I reached out to her and let her know I would love to audition for her film. A fun fact: I never auditioned for the role I played, the young ‘King of Boys’. I actually auditioned for The role of Kemi Salami, her daughter, which went on to be played by Adesua, but Kemi thought I was more suited for the role of Young Eniola and cast me for that.”

Born Gbemi Anthonia Adefuye, She is an actress, singer, and photographer whose influence in the Nigerian entertainment industry has become undeniable.

Toni has completely shattered the proverbial box on and off screen and is blazing her own trail. The world better watch out! This icon in making is going nowhere anytime soon.
