I almost didn’t make ‘La Femme Anjola’ – Mildred Okwo

Nollywood fans went into a frenzy when filmmaker Mildred Okwo released the trailer for her upcoming film La Femme Anjola.

La Femme Anjola is a film noir about a young stockbroker whose life turns upside down after he has an entanglement with a beautiful enigmatic singer; who turns out to be the wife of a wealthy and deadly gangster.

But Mildred Okwo revealed that La Femme Anjola almost did not happen. The filmmaker said on an Instagram Live with Sodas n’ Popcorn that when the scriptwriter Tunde Babalola brought it to her years ago, she fell in love with it instantly.

Unfortunately, at the time, Okwo could neither afford to acquire nor make the movie. In her words, “I was sweating reading the script. I liked it so much. But at the time, I did not have the money to buy it. Also, I was already invested in another project. Someone else got it before I did.”

‘I went on to do something else but I was so sad. I heard what the person wanted to do with the script and got so frustrated that I didn’t get my hands on it,” Okwo said.

But things changed when Nollywood screen diva Rita Dominic (who plays the titular character Anjola and starred in Okwo’s The Meeting) fell in love with the script too. In fact, they bought La Femme Anjola together!

Okwo shared, “Rita Dominic and I got a bit of money and asked about the script again. When Tunde said it was available, Rita and I bought it immediately. She was excited about it and said it was the one she wanted to put her signature on”.

And now La Femme Anjola is coming to theatres on March 19!
