Nigerian comedian and actor AY Makun has been quite vocal during this trying lockdown period. More recently, AY said that the current state of hunger will prove to be a challenge to the government-issued lockdown.
The comedian said that Nigeria is currently fighting two battles; one against the coronavirus pandemic and the other against hunger brought on by poverty and the thwarting of many business ventures in the resulting lockdown.
AY, aware of his privilege, took to his social media page to share that while the rich want the poor to stay at home, hunger won’t let the poor do so; because it is as much a problem as the virus itself and will remain after the pandemic dies out.
According to him, the country “can only control the spread of the virus when the rich help the poor by providing enough food to stay at home.” He says for the poor, hunger is a virus that lives with them at home.
Going on, he states that while the rich are afraid of coronavirus, what instills more fear in the poor is hunger. Makun advocates for social equilibrium to restore Nigeria and the world at large.
On the other hand, AY also recently recounted the challenges of giving to charity as a celebrity. He described the situation as a double-edged sword, where celebrities just cannot seem to do right by the public. Read that story here.
