How My Daughter Saved Me From Depression- Brandy

RnB star, Brandy has bravely spoken out about her struggle with depression and trauma.

The Fall singer, 41, spoke candidly about her struggles in the new issue of PEOPLE magazine; explaining that she found strength through her 18-year-old daughter, Sy’rai.

Brandy revealed that she had contemplated suicide after a woman died in an accident she was involved in. She had also suffered devastating heartbreaks from her relationships.

Speaking on how she tackled her depression problems, the singer stated that she had to pull herself together, for the sake of her daughter.

“I remember laying in bed super depressed. I (told) myself, ‘So, you’re just going to go out like this? That’s wack. You have a daughter. If you can’t do it yourself; do it for her because this is not the way to leave a mark in her life.

“If Sy’rai wasn’t here, I wouldn’t be either. The place that I was in, it just felt like I wasn’t going to make it through,” she said.

Brandy who just released B7, her first album in eight years added that although she has not been diagnosed with bipolar disorder; she had second thoughts on being candid about her feelings on her new album.

“I was thinking, ‘Did I go too deep? Did I go too far in what I was singing about?’ But I didn’t dwell on those thoughts,” she said.

“I’m in a place now where I can be proud of moving in the right direction.”

Brandy welcomed her daughter Sy’rai, in 2002 with her ex partner, Robert Smith and announced that she had secretly married him.

A year after their daughter’s birth, the couple announced their split with Smith revealing that they were never married but feigned marriage in order to maintain the singer’s squeaky-clean image.
