Nollywood veteran Eucharia Anunobi shared about how she consoled herself after the untimely death of her only child.
In August 2017, Anunobi lost her 15-year-old son Raymond to complications from sickle cell anaemia. At the time, Anunobi spoke extensively about the tragic loss. She said it wasn’t his condition that killed him; but that the doctor who treated her son mishandled him and inadvertently caused his death.
She also lamented that her “home was silent without him” and everything had “lost its joy”. The following year, she celebrated his post-humous 16th birthday by donating his clothes as well as some food to the orphanage. At his memorial, Anunobi said, “It is not possible to overcome the trauma of losing an only child; it is a scar that will always be there. Forget the powder and lipstick, it is just a cover-up; it’s been days and nights of tears.”
However, it seems like the actress-turned-pastor has sought solace in her faith. When asked in an interview with Chude Jideonwo how she got through losing her son, Anunobi said, “The comfort I have not to mourn unnecessarily over the loss of my only child as a single parent is because I know that he’s not gone.”
The former beauty queen continued, “Yes I know he’s gone physically, I can’t see him. I miss him being here… But I know that there are a lot of beautiful treasures of the memories I have about him in my heart and I know because the word of God says I will see him again. So I have consolation in that.”
