Back in April 2021, Hulu announced they a spin-off for the largely popular How I Met Your Mother tv show, titled How I Met Your Father with Hilary Duff as the main character.
Duff would play Sophie, a 30-year-old woman telling her son the story of how she met his father.
The show would revolve around Sophie and her close-knit group of friends. The group will be figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.
Some more cast members for the upcoming tv series have also now been announced.
Here they are, with a little background on their characters.
Chris Lowell plays Jesse, an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver as well. He’s cynical about love and lives with his best friend, Tom. This is reminiscent of Ted and Marshall in the original HIMYM series.
Francia Raisa plays Valentina, Sophie’s roommate and an aspiring stylist. She’s also described as impulsive and adventurous.
Tom Ainsley will play Charlie, an aspiring model who fell in love with Valentina at London Fashion Week and followed her to New York. He’s the son of conservative rich aristocrats and has been living in a rich person’s bubble his whole life.
Tien Tran will play Ellen, Jesse’s adopted sister who just moved to New York after separating from her wife.

Here’s what Hilary Duff had to say about the show. “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie,” said Duff. “As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there!” She also added.
The new series is created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. The original How I Met Your Mother creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will also be executive producing the spinoff.
