Popular producer, SARS has narrated how Afro-beat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti inspired him to produce Wizkid‘s 2013 smash hit, Jaiye Jaiye.

When a curious fan asked the producer for what inspired the Jaiye Jaiye beat, Sarz said he was being tutored on the spirituality of music by the late legend in his dream when the inspiration came.

SARS said as the conversation between him and Fela progressed, someone started knocking on his door and it turned out to be Wizkid.

According to the producer, Wizkid then told him in the dream to add the sound from the door-knock to a beat and send it to him for consideration.

SARS said; “I had a dream I was with Fela and he was schooling me about the spirituality of music. Deep in our conversation, someone started knocking gben gben gben.. I was like ‘who is that?’ The person knocked again gbim gbim gbim. I opened the door and it was Wizkid. He said when you wake up add this gben gben and gbim gbim to a beat and send it to me. I woke up and the rest was history.”

It’s over six years that Wizkid released Jaiye Jaiye, a song that turned out to be a street anthem at the time. The song featured Afro-beat maestro and Fela’s first son, Femi Kuti.

In the song, Wizkid talks about his increasingly successful music career, giving thanks for his grass to grace musical journey.

Although not the regular pop or club hit; the song which features the Grammy-nominated Nigerian musician topped musical charts for months at the time.
