Habiba the musical is coming soon to the MUSON Centre. The musical highlights the ordeal of one of the Chibok girls. In 2014, Boko Haram terrorists kidnapped 276 girls from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.

The musical produced by Longshot Communications narrates the story of an intelligent young girl called Habiba. It shows the audience her terrifying journey from when Boko Haram kidnaps her up to the point when she escapes her captors.

Creative Director, Longshot Communications, Kelechukwu Anunibe, explained that the musical asks questions about the unresolved issues surrounding the abduction of the over 200 schoolgirls and the fate of those still in captivity.

Anunibe talked about their intent for the stories. Their goal is to foster public discussion about social issues.

In his words, they intended “to bring social issues to the front-burner of the nation’s consciousness… Thereby driving conversations that birth social change.”

He added that the girl whose story the musical will tell was kidnapped on April 14, 2014. She managed to escape along with three others after months of abuse.

Some of her friends died in Sambisa Forest where the terrorists kept them. But ‘Habiba’ and three other girls regained freedom courtesy a terrorist who admired her.

“Habiba” reiterates how resilience can bring out strength needed to keep going. The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaign that later attracted global attention was born out of this true-life event that the musical relives.

“Habiba” the musical will hit MUSON Centre on November 23, 2019.
