The 2021 Grammys, originally scheduled for January 31, has been postponed due to an unprecedented surge in coronavirus infections.

Although no further details has been released, Rolling Stone reports that the organisers are aiming to hold the event on March 14.

They had previously announced that this year’s edition would be mostly virtual; with only presenters and performing artists on-site during the show.

“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show,” said a statement from the Recording Academy.

Beyoncé leads this year’s nominations with nine nominations while Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift; and Roddy Ricch followed behind with six nominations each.

Nigerian music-stars, Burna- Boy and Wizkid also made the list for the 2021 Grammys.

This is the second year in a row that Burnaboy is getting a nomination in the World Music Album category.

The singer was nominated alongside other entertainers like Antibalas, Bebel Gilberto, Anoushka Shankar and Tianariwen for his recent album, Twice As Tall.

For Wizkid, it was his feature in Beyoncé‘s Brownskin Girl song. The song’s video is nominated for Best Music Video.

Many major awards ceremonies have had to move online since the outbreak of the pandemic. Meanwhile, film and TV productions are also adjusting to the surge in coronavirus cases
