About Amaka Igwe
Igwe was a renowned Nigerian filmmaker, broadcasting executive, and the owner of Top Radio 90.9 Lagos and Amaka Igwe Studios.
Igwe gained notoriety as the writer and producer of the award-winning soap, Checkmate and its offshoot Fuji House of Commotion.
She also produced several Nollywood movies including Rattle Snake, Violated and A Barber’s Wisdom. A multiple award winning practitioner, Igwe was awarded Member of The Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFN) for her immense contribution to the creative industry.
The Nollywood icon died April 29, 2014, in Enugu at the age of 51, after efforts to save her from asthma exacerbation proved abortive. Sadly, it was a few weeks to launching her new TV channel.
However, her legacy lives on in many of other directors that were impacted by her tutelage.
