Nollywood actor cum politician, Desmond Elliot has criticised Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State’s campaign slogan, Edo no be Lagos (sic).

For quite a while now, Obaseki has been promoting Edo no be Lagos, as he’s keenly seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Before he defected to PDP, Obaseki came to Lagos to meet with former governor of the state, Asiwaju Tinubu, but the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain advised him to go through direct primaries endorsed by the party.

Obaseki obliged but was was disqualified by a committee set-up by his estranged godfather and predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.

Since he defected to PDP after his disqualification to seek re-run as Edo governor from APC, Obaseki’s effective campaign strategy is influencing Edo State resident to end Godfatherism by voting for him.

To effect his campaign strategy, he has over time claimed that Godfatherism as it’s being allowed in Lagos, will not be allowed in Edo.

Reacting to the campaign slogan, Elliot who was elected to the Lagos House of Assembly under APC, explained that “Saying Edo state can never be Lagos State means that Edo state can never be as developed as Lagos State.”

He said, “What do you mean by Edo state cannot be Lagos state. You cannnot say you cant be Lagos State when Lagos State makes an IGR of over 30 billion every month. You can’t hear about unpaid salaries or pension. You see projects coming up, investors and investment coming up, we are the fifth largest economy in Africa. So why will you say Edo can’t be Lagos because you are trying to sell an idea.

“If not for God-fatherism would he (Obaseki) be where he is today.”

Elliot however expressed the conviction that Obaseki’s main contendant, Pastor Ize-Iyamu will triumph in Edo State’s Saturday, September 19, 2020 governorship election.
