Funmi Holder to Release First Epic Movie, ‘Efunsetan Aniwura’

Nollywood actress and producer Funmi Holder is set to release her first epic movie titled Efunsetan Aniwura.

Efunsetan Aniwura, a movie on the legendary women leader (Iyalode) in Ibadan will be in cinemas from January 30.

Produced by Funmi Holder and directed by Joshua Ojo, the movie parades stars such as Clarion Chukwura, Alex Osifo, Funmi Holder, Jaiye Kuti,  Adunni Ade, Sola Fosudo, Ebun Oloyede, Wale Elesho, Sukanmi Omobolanle, Binta Ayo Mogaji and Yemi Solade.

Although, the historic movie was shot in locations in Ibadan (Oyo State) and Ilesa (Osun State), we discovered the long buried history of the Yoruba’s most powerful woman that ever lived. It is perhaps one of the most motivating thrillers in Yoruba’s political history. It captivates in the most astounding manner.”

According to Holder, she wrote on her Instagram handle: “We are doing this for the culture ! Let’s tell our own stories ! Efunsetan ANIWURA. In Cinemas from January 31 2020

However, on how she was able to get certain historic details relevant to the movie, the producer, Holder, said, “Like they say, if you want to shine like a sun, (first) burn like a sun. That’s the story of the second Iyalode of Ibadan. Living members of the late Aniwuras’ family were interviewed to get the real and correct story.

Efunsetan Aniwura lived in the 1800s, was one of the most influential Yoruba women in Nigeria. She moved to Ibadan after her marriage to Ajani. This story details her trials, triumphs and eventual fall from grace.
