Funke Akindele’s film ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ to hit Netflix Sept 10

Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz comedy film ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, set to hit Netflix in September.

Akindele, taking to her Instagram page on Tuesday, revealed that the 2018 comedy film will be released on  streaming platform Netflix on September 10.

Released on Christmas day 2020, the movie is a sequel to 2010 trilogy Omo Ghetto. The movie follows the story of Shalewa aka Lefty (Funke Akindele). Lefty struggles between living a life of wealth and comfort provided by her adopted mother or returning to her ghetto lifestyle.

Akindele who produced and co-directed the film played the dual role of Ayomide and Lefty. She also starred alongside Tina Mba, Adebayo Salami aka Oga Bello, Chioma Akpotha, Bimbo Thomas, Eniola Badmus; Deyemi Okanlawon, Zubby Michael, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, Alex Ekubo among others.

The movie became a box office hit, surpassing ‘Fate of Alakada’ as the highest-grossing Nigerian film for that year.

Also, In January, Omo Ghetto became the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time after it surpassed Kemi Adetiba’s The Wedding Party; smashing its 4-year record. According to a CEAN report, the movie has maintained the number one spot for six weeks in a row.

The movie also earned positive reviews from critics.
