From Wizkid to Davido: The 5 Most Anticipated Albums of 2020

With COVID-19 and its untold hardship in the first half of 2020, there has been a growing list of artistes who are strategically been delaying their expected albums. 

So far, aside from Kizz Daniel, who recently released King of Love, his third studio album, A-list artistes in the country have only been seen making teasers and announcements for their forthcoming projects.

As the music industry is one of the sectors hitten hard by the lingering pandemic, some albums are expected to arrive completely out of the blue. And while most of the albums on this list have confirmed release dates, some have only been announced, with no details other than a 2020 arrival.

In spite of the speculations making rounds about music projects, eelive.ng feels fairly certain that the albums that made it to this list will debut before the end of the year.

With music fans gearing to be occupied with lots of great music, it appears like the a-list artistes in the country are prepared to go head-to-head in a war of releases.

Below are the performing artistes with expected projects:

Wizkid –For over two years now, Wizkid has been promoting his fourth studio album. Although, the first time he mentioned Made In Lagos, was during a 2017 conversation with DJ Semtex, an ex-presenter for BBC Radio 1Xtra’s weekly hip-hop show.

Fans have been anticipating this album since as far back as 2018. The first release date set for Made In Lagos was October 1, 2018. In two tweets, he wrote, “01. 10. 2018” before writing “#MadeInLagos”, on August 18, 2018. 

In a similar act, on September 20, 2018, he took to his Twitter page, as he wrote, “1st of October! Gbedu! Everything stew.”

Fast-forward to 2020, he again failed to drop the album after announcing a date perceived to be the release date for Made in Lagos. However, chances are high that the Starboy label boss will drop the highly-anticipated album this year. Although, details of the album aside from the title, are yet to be made known to the public.

Tiwa Savage –Having had a successful year in 2019, inking a seven-year publishing and distribution deal with Universal Music Group, an American music corporation, many of her fans have since been waiting for her to drop a body of work to their delight.

After five years without dropping an album, the Afro-pop queen, some months ago, disclosed that she would be dropping an album this year. While she didn’t announce the album release date, she fairly revealed the title, Celia.

Burna Boy –Reigning Afro-beat poster boy, Burna Boy has already informed his fans that he has an album to release this year. 

Having claimed several international recognitions last year, the Grammy-nominated artiste disclosed that his fifth studio album will be titled Twice as Tall, and will be released in July, 2020. Although the month has come to an end already; with his recent moves, it is certain that the album may drop anytime from now.

Davido
Davido

Davido – Serving as a follow-up to his sophomore album, Davido may release his third studio body of work anytime from now. The album which was slated for July 2020, release, will feature international music stars like Nicki Minaj, and Nas.

While A Good Time was released some months ago, the DMW head honcho has been seen ramping up efforts to fill his discography and drop his third album this year, which he already titled A Better Time.

Adekunle Gold

Adekunle Gold -With two singles off his forthcoming album already, fans are already gearing up to get served. Releasing details of the body of work, the Afro-fusion singer said the album dubbed Afro-Pop Volume 1, will be released on August 21, 2020, and will be a 10-track sound-piece.

Speaking of the project, the AG Baby singer said Afro-Pop Volume 1 is a reflection of his growing versatility. “This album is different; nobody has ever named an album a new genre before. I wanted to coin all the sounds I put together on this album. I have been looking for an avenue to express myself limitlessly. It’s African popular music,” he told RWD magazine, recently.
