On Valentine’s Day, for the umpteenth time, I received a pair of boxers and a pack of singlet as my gift. Meanwhile, I gifted my partner a box of chocolate, pair of heel shoes, body spray and a food tray.
Something is wrong somewhere, a pair of boxers cannot equate to the aforementioned gift I gave my partner on Valentine’s Day. This episode of For Broke Boys Only is to call out women who prefer to hoard their funds for rainy days- while the man goes all out, the ladies the barest minimum.
Quite appalling if you ask me, it’s time for women to level up and make adjustment to their propensity to give. They should desist from holding back and do more of gifting- as the popular saying goes, “there is love in sharing”; love entails sacrifice and benevolence, hence, what’s the purpose of the incessant boxers and singlets.

In this part of the world, it’s common to see men chase women with funds and their resources for various reasons. Sometimes, men express benevolence for romantic reasons or other ulterior motives, albeit, it’s often the man who makes the first move. As time goes on, the woman ought to reciprocate, however, some ladies prefer to remain in the minimal phase.
They rarely ever challenge themselves to invest financially in a relationship. Asides from the coitus which they use to reward the man for his “good works” and weeks to months of excessive spending, they almost never laud their partners for their worthwhile deeds.
Nigerian women need to become more invested in their relationships, do something worthwhile by taking initiatives.
I identify as a broke boy, hence, I’d like to admonish women to leave their comfort zones and gift their man something that he would continually cherish for the rest of his life.

- A belt
- New pair of shoes
- A complete set of suit or three-piece suit
- Surprise him with money (get his account and credit him)
- A complimentary bracelet
- Dinner date at his favorite restaurant
- A necklace with his name etched on it
- An exquisite body spray or perfume
- A massage date
I’m sure with the list above, you should be able to appease the heart of a broke boy who is steady trying to garner something worthwhile of himself. Ladies need to understand that a man appreciates little things, don’t be so stiff with your relationship, be flexible and make it fun.
It’s your relationship, don’t wish for what someone else has, build your own home and create beautiful memories with your partner, desist from the shambolic boxers and singlets gifting. It’s okay dear, you’re not in JSS 3 anymore, you’re a working class lady now.
