Christmas is fast approaching and the second those office doors close, the cinemas are going to be full to the brim. But don’t follow the herd and watch whatever you see. Here are five Nollywood movies showing this December which will definitely be worth the coin.
1. Kpali
“Kpali” captures the struggles of a millennial working-class girl Amaka, who has to juggle immigration issues and the pressure of her family members to find a husband.
Featuring Ini Dima-Okojie, Nkem Owoh, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Linda Ejiofor, “Kpali” is a movie that every young Nigerian needs to see.
“Kpali” hits theatres on the 20th of December.
2. Sugar Rush
Produced by Jadesola Osiberu, “Sugar Rush” follows three prostitutes, played by Adesua Etomi, Bisola Aiyeola, and Bimbo Ademoye, who unwittingly find and spend millions of naira.
Unknown to them, a bunch of very dangerous people want that money an would do anything to get their hands on it.
The movie also features Jide Kosoko, Tobi Bakre, Toke Makinwa, Mawuli Gavor and a host of TV darlings. You can even catch a glimpse of Jidenna in the trailer.
“Sugar Rush” hits theatres on the 25th of December.
3. Muna
“Muna” is the story of a village girl that has had a rough life. Under the guise of giving her a better life, Muna’s uncle sells her off to human traffickers who force her into prostitution. Now grown, she vows to take vengeance on her abusers and traffickers.
This much-anticipated action flick is a strong statement against human trafficking. It also features Adesua Etomi in a way we have never seen her before. So if you’d like to watch her go Columbiana, go and see this movie.
“Muna” started screening on the 6th of December and is still showing now!
4. Your Excellency
On a much lighter note, “Your Excellency” is a comedy that tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi. Ajadi is a bumbling, billionaire businessman and unsuccessful presidential candidate, whose idol is Donald Trump.
Just when his campaign looks to be another disaster, a major party anoints Ajadi, making him a credible contender through social media.
Released on December 13th, “Your Excellency” is in theatres now.
5. Seven
Mr Tayo, a wealthy man from humble beginnings, discovers he has an incurable brain tumour. With little time left, he is doubtful about handing over his empire to his immature rebellious only son Kolade.
Eventfully, Tayo develops a plan to send his son to Ajegunle where he grew up for a week with no money or help. Cut off from his privilege, Tayo hopes Kolade will grow from adversity and become a worthy heir.
“Seven” has been showing in theatres since the 29th of November and is still available for viewing.
