Moses Babatope, the co-founder of Filmhouse Cinemas and FilmOne Entertainment, has said said Netflix is not a threat to the movie theatre industry and will never be.
Addressing if the rise of movie streaming platforms like Netflix is threatening to movie theatres, Babatope told eelive.ng during a chat that for Filmhouse, Netflix is complimentary.
His words: “We don’t see Netflix as a threat. We see them as very complementary to our business… It’s an open secrete that internet infrastructure is very poor in Nigeria, and at Filmhouse, we hope it gets better because that’s important to the growth of streaming services.
“Cinemas will also grow and our films will get better. The reality is that those that want to set themselves apart know that the big screen experience cannot be replicated or duplicated anywhere else. And as long as Nigerians continue to be as sociable as they are, we will continue being a leading movie exhibitor in the country.”
