The Rock & Roll just announced this year’s inductees, and it looks like Fela Kuti didn’t make the cut.
The Rock hall announced the 2021 list of Hall of Fame inductees today.
Inductees in the performance category include Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren, and Tina Turner.
In addition, LL Cool J, Billy Preston, and Randy Rhoads will receive the Musical Excellence Award. Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron, and Charley Patton will get the Early Influence Award. Sussex Records founder Clarence Avant will also take home the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s and Jay-Z were on the ballot for the first time this year.
Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, John Skyes said;
“This diverse class of talented Inductees reflects the Rock Hall’s ongoing commitment to honor artists whose music created the sound of youth culture. It will make for an unforgettable live celebration of music in October at this year’s Induction Ceremony in Cleveland.”
To be eligible, artists must have released their first record at least 25 years before induction.

Fela Kuti was a first-time nominee and even took an early lead in the fan voting category, finishing in second place.

Fela Kuti would have been the first Nigerian inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if he had won.
Tina Turner and Carole King are going to be entering the Hall of Fame for the second time. King got inducted alongside her former songwriting partner Gerry Goffin in 1990 as a non-performer while Tina Turner entered in 1991 as one half of the Ike & Tina Turner duo.
Other music legends nominated include Mary J Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Iron Maiden, Chaka Khan, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, and Dionne Warwick.
