Fans of Nigerian musician, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, are still celebrating ‘World Wizkid Day’.

A former governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton proclaimed October 6 as Wizkid day in 2018. However, the Grammy award winner was born on July 16.

During his tenure, the 40th governor of Minnesota officially signed, stamped and sealed a document stating that the reason behind the declaration was to honour Wizkid for his impressive achievements in music and for his role as a culture influencer.

Some of the singer’s achievements were mentioned in the document. Some include being the first African artiste to sell out the Skyway Theatre Minneapolis, walking the runway as a model for Dolce and Gabbana, making a Billboard number one hit ‘One Dance’ with Drake, selling out the O2 Arena London, winning countless international awards. Since then, the artiste has gone on to achieve so much .

Nigerians went on their respective Twitter pages to celebrate the day. The trend #Wizkid day currently has over 20k tweets.

A Twitter user, @19badman, proclaimed that every day is world Wizkid day as he tweeted, “Every day is #WorldWizkidDay.”

Another user @MDee01 tweeted “In 2012, Wizkid became the FIRST AFRICAN ARTIST in History to sell-out HMV APOLLO (5000) Capacity in London. As of that time, you hardly see African artists out there selling out 3k capacity outside African. But this young man right here did that in 2012. #WorldWizkidDay.”
