Top American awards ceremony, American Music Awards was broadcasted live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday.
American rapper, Cardi B hosted the event. This is the Five-time the AMA winner will be hosting the award show. She’s taking over from actress, Taraji P. Henson, who hosted last year. Speaking about this, the 29 year old said,
“When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited. I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage!”
The executive producer of the event stated as well,
“We are immensely excited to have the dynamic Cardi B bring her infectious energy to the American Music Awards as a first-time host.”
Cardi B previously made history at the award show as the first female rapper to win favorite hip-hop song twice, with “WAP” in 2020 and “Bodak Yellow” in 2018.
Newcomer, Olivia Rodrigo has the most nominations with seven nominations. The nominations include artist, female pop artist, and new artist of the year, as well as favorite trending song, music video, and pop song. The nominations for her hit single, “Drivers License” are favorite trending song, music video, and pop song.
Thereafter, The Weeknd follows right behind her with six nominations. With five nominations each, Bunny, Doja Cat, and Giveon tie for third place.
The performance lineup started Rodrigo, Bunny, BTS and Coldplay. Silk Sonic’s Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak will make their AMA debut by opening the show.
