In the aftermath of the Nigerian government’s violent crackdown of the #EndSARS protests; the organizers of the Lagos Fashion Week have postponed the event indefinitely. The show organisers of the popular fashion event announced the news via their Instagram page.
“The events of the last few days have borne a deep sense of grief. With this grief guiding our steps and out of respect to those that have had their lives unjustly taken from them; coupled with the current state of affairs in the country, Lagos Fashion Week 2020 is POSTPONED,” the post read.
“A new date will be communicated in due time. Thank you to everyone that has lent their time, voice and resources to securing positive change. 20.10.2020 we will never forget,” the post concluded; making note of the date of the massacre in Lekki and other parts of Lagos.
The Heineken-sponsored event was supposed to celebrate its 10th year and had already called for fashion film submissions.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the second unprecedented event to alter schedules and, more importantly, lives, in 2020.
