While discussing in a recent interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast “Armchair Expert,” Emilia Clarke opens up on the pressure to film nude scenes and how she has been able to stand up to it.
The actress starred as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. She recalled a time when filming a naked scene. She wanted to cover up but was told, “You don’t want to disappoint your Game of Thrones Fans.”
Clarke had defended the use of nudity on ‘Game of Thrones‘ before but now she sees things differently. She noted that times have changed during her career.
“I’m a lot more savvy about what I’m comfortable with, and what I am okay with doing,” she said.
Furthermore, she revealed that several producers have requested she embody her inner Khalessi and film nude scenes for other projects. A request that is offensive.
Clarke said she initially committed to the nude scenes of “Thrones” because she was an inexperienced 23-year-old actress just coming out of drama school.
“I’m floating through this first season and I have no idea what I’m doing; I have no idea what any of this is. I’ve never been on a film set like this before. I’d been on a film set twice before then, and I’m now on a film set completely naked with all these people, and I don’t know what I’,m meant to do, and I don’t know what’s expected of me, and I don’t know what you want, and I don’t know what I want,” she said.
Earlier this year, she revealed that she turned down Fifty Shades of Grey. Clarke feels that the discussion of her work in “Thrones” has unfairly focused on the nude scenes rather than her character work.
Clarke Praises Jason Momoa
The actress used the opportunity to thank co-star Jason Momoa known as Khal Drogo. On “Game of Thrones” set he cared for her, encouraged and advocated for her well being.
“He took care of me too, in an environment where I didn’t know I needed to be taken care of,” She revealed.
Emilia Clarke went on to clarify a big issue. She says that that her appearance in several nude scenes for “Thrones” doesn’t mean she’s comfortable filming for other projects.
