Juno star, Elliot Page, formerly known as Ellen Page has filed for divorce from his wife Emma Portner; less than two months after coming out publicly as transgender.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,” the pair wrote in a statement. “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”
The Oscar-nominated movie star met Portner, a dancer and choreographer; through social media when he stumbled on one of her dance videos. The pair got married secretly in January 2018.
He had announced on Instagram, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife” alongside a photograph of the couple’s hands with engagement rings and a black-and-white picture of the pair embracing.

In December 2020, Elliot Page came out as transgender and nonbinary, in a social media post.
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans. My pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self,” he wrote.
“I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place.
“I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”
