American talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres is ending her daytime talk show, The Ellen Show after 19 years. This is coming amidst the resignation of three of the show’s producers. There have also been controversies around the work environment where there have been allegations of toxicity.

In 2020, DeGeneres apologised to staff for management deficiencies. In a recent interview, the 63-year-old said she was quitting the show because it was no longer as challenging. On May 11, 2021 she eventually informed her staff of the decision to end the show.

The ratings in the show have also taken a hit. According to an audience rating data, the show’s viewership witnessed a significant drop. It went from 2.6 million viewers to 1.5 million this last season.

DeGeneres is expected to have a sit down with her friend and fellow talk show host, Oprah Winfrey to discuss the news today. In a recent statement, DeGeneres said: When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”

The Ellen DeGeneres show is ending

The comedian and talk show host had to issue a public apology to her last year. This was following a review that found that there were some issues with the management of the show.

However, DeGeneres says these allegations have nothing to do with her ending the show. She said, “it almost impacted the show. It was very hurtful to me. I mean, very. But if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn’t have come back this season.”

“So, it’s not why I’m stopping but it was hard because I was sitting at home, it was summer, and I see a story that people have to chew gum before they talk to me…”

“Then I see another story of some other ridiculous thing and then it just didn’t stop. And I wasn’t working, so I had no platform, and I didn’t want to address it on (Twitter) and I thought if I just don’t address it, it’s going to go away because it was all so stupid:” the award winning host said.
