Eddie Murphy has revealed has that some of his old stand-up jokes aimed at gay people makes him “cringe” now.
The comedian and actor, who hosted Sunday Night Live earlier this month told CBS in a new interview. In the interview, Eddie Murphy, 58, reflected on his career over the years. He admitted that he understands times have changed and what was funny decades ago could be tagged offensive today.
Some of it, I cringe when I watch it. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe I said that’.”
“I’ve seen stuff that I’ll go, like, oh, that’s, ooh, yeah, you’ll get a joke that’s cringey,” he added.
However, Murphy did not apologise for the jokes and said he looked at them “within the context of the times”.
“And I’m going, okay, I’m a kid saying that,” he said.
Just recently, Bill Cosby’s spokesman called Eddie Murphy “A Hollywood Slave” after the comedian made jokes at Cosby’s expense during his open monologue on Saturday Night Live. Murphy compared his current situation to Cosby’s who’s serving three to 10 years in prison after being found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault.
“But if you had told me 30 years ago that I would be this boring, stay-at-home….house dad and Bill Cosby would be in jail,” Murphy said to laughter, even I would have took that bet.”
