Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is having a great a year. The actor and former wrestler has both tied the knot to his longtime girlfriend and been named No. 1 on Forbes’ list of highest paid actors for 2019.
It’s not his first time in first place though, he was first in 2016 and then took a drop thereafter.
Forbes’ analyzes and ranks actors based on the pay period between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019. Throughout that year alone, Johnson only appeared in one film, Skyscraper. His most recent film, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw premiered this month, meaning that the massive box office pay didn’t even contribute to his immense ($84.9 million) earnings over the past year.
Forbes’ annual ranking takes into account all of an actor’s earnings, rather than solely those reaped from film and television roles. Johnson’s royalties over the past year came from Skyscraper, his leading role in HBO’s Ballers, his hosting gig on NBC’s Titan Games, a quote from Jumanji: Next Level (which will be released in December), and his apparel, footwear, and headphone lines with Under Armour.
Johnson’s 2016 gold medal on the Forbes list was made possible by the actor’s roles in that year’s Fast 8 and Central Intelligence, as well as quotes from upcoming movies at the time. With Hobbs & Shaw under his belt and the next chapter of Jumanji coming soon, it’s safe to say we can expect Johnson to nab a top ranking on Forbes 2020 list, too.
