Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt Team Up for Superhero Film

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are re-teaming on Ball and Chain, a superhero movie following their collaboration on Jungle Cruise.

Ball and Chain is being written by Oscar nominee, Emily V. Gordon and produced by Johnson and Blunt. It is an adaptation of the ’90s comic of the same name by Scott Lobdell.

It follows a married couple going through relationship turmoil who also have superpowers. But they only work properly when they’re together.

Ball and Chain is being shopped among studios, including Netflix. But no distribution deal has closed.

Disney’s much awaited movie Jungle Cruise, which features both actors, earlier billed for July 24. Due to theater closures amid coronavirus pandemic, It will now be released on July 30, 2021.

The Jungle Cruise movie is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. Dwayne Johnson will play a boat skipper named Frank who takes Blunt‘s character, Lily and her brother McGregor — played by British stand-up comedian Jack Whitehall, who you may recognize from the Good Omens series on Amazon Prime — on a mission to find a tree that has magical healing powers.

The journey will see them fight wild animals and compete against a rival German expedition, with Disney adding that there will be a “supernatural element.”

According to Blunt, who also starred in Disney’s recent Mary Poppins Returns, “it’s a love story.”
