London-based Nigerian fashion designer, Duro Olowu, recently launched his Spring/Summer 2020 collection at the just concluded London Fashion Week 2019. The collection is reportedly inspired by the sublime and evocative travel sketch books of artist, Françoise Gilot – the stylish artist and charismatic former lover and muse of Picasso.
Gilot’s amazing sketchbooks were made during her trips to Venice, India, and Senegal in the late 1970’s and early 80s, making the new Olowu catalogue a pleasing sartorial offering with the brand’s customary use of vibrant colours.
Duro Olowu is best known for his innovative combinations of patterns and textiles that draw inspiration from his international background. His empire waist patchwork “Duro” dress was named “dress of the year” by both American and British Vogue in 2005.
