Drake to receive Artist of the Decade honor at 2021 Billboard Music Awards

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards is fast approaching and it promises to be a fun time.

A mainstay on the Billboard charts, it’s now been announced that Drake will be honored with the award for Artiste of the Decade.

Since his debut, the Canadian superstar has been at the top of the charts. First popping up in 2009, Drake has gone on to boast nine Billboard 200 No. 1s in the last decade. Starting with his 2010 debut studio LP, Thank Me Later, and more recently reigning with 2019’s Care Package.

Drake currently holds the title for the most BBMAs with 27, taking home 12 of them in 2019. He’s also a finalist in seven categories at this year’s show, including top artists.

The multi-time Grammy award winner follows Eminem, who won for the 2000s, and Mariah Carey, the champion for the 1990s.

The Billboard Music Awards will hold on Sunday, May 23 and will be hosted by Nick Jonas.

This Year’s show will feature performances by AJR, BTS, DJ Khaled featuring H.E.R. and Migos, Alicia Keys, Duran Duran, Glass Animals, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Sounds of Blackness, P!nk, Twenty One Pilots, and The Weeknd.

For the first time ever, Billboard also revealed the top 10 artists for the decade.

Here’s the list for 2010s below

  3. Bruno Mars
  4. Rihanna
  5. Adele
  6. Ed Sheeran
  7. Justin Bieber
  8. Katy Perry
  9. Maroon 5
  10. Post Malone

In addition to Drake, P!nk will receive the ICON Award making her the youngest recipient of the award to date while Trae the Truth will receive the Change Maker award. Trae Tha Truth is being recognized by the Billboard Music Awards for his philanthropic work and social justice advocacy.

This year’s awards are based on the chart period of March 21, 2020 through April 3, 2021.

Billboard Music Awards finalists and winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data and Next Big Sound.
