American rapper and hip-hop icon, Kanye West, following his very public divorce with reality TV star, Kim Kardashian has been relatively quiet in the music scene.
Two days ago however, Kanye broke his two year silence by returning to Instagram and by announcing a new album, set for release on July 23, 2021.
The “Violent Crimes’ ‘ hitmaker held a listening party Thursday night, giving out 5000 tickets to Atlanta’s HBCUs. Industry names like Pusha T, Jay Z, Kim Kardashian, Shaquille O’Neal, CeeLo Green and Jadakiss, attended the listening party which took palce last night.
Kanye’s tenth studio album has been stalled for a while, but it is set to drop this Friday, as announced by Kanye himself.
Here what we know about Kanye West’s tenth studio album, before it’s release;
- The first sample we got from the album was through a Beat by Dre commercial featuring one of the tracks “No Child Gets left Behind” and athlete Sha’Carri Richardson.
- Kanye West live streamed the “Donda” listening party on Thursday night at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz stadium.
- Kanye’s tenth studio album, “Donda” is named after the rapper’s late mother, Donda West.
- Despite the rumors of a feud between the two icons, Jay-Z and Kanye West hopped on a track together for “Donda”
- Jay Z recorded his verse for his collaboration with Kanye West yesterday by 4pm, which is what delayed the listening party, according to Jay’s sound engineer and producer, Young Guru.
- The album has features from Travis Scott, Playboy Carti, Don Toliver and Vory.
- According to Playboy Carti via a tweet, “Donda” is better than “Ye”
- “Donda” was to be released in July 2020, but was delayed.
- The album was originally called “God’s Country”, later changed to “Donda: With Child” and may continue the religious theme following “Jesus is King”
- Several tracks on the album addresses his divorce with Kim Kardashian with lines highlighting “lawyers fees” and another in which he sings “I’m losing my family”
- The album continues to highlight the 44-year old rappers relationship with God
