Dolly Parton has told Tennessee lawmakers that she actually doesn’t want a statue of her erected at the Tennessee Capitol.

After state legislatures introduced a bill proposing the instalment of a statue for Dolly Parton on the Tennessee Capitol grounds; the country legend is weighing in.

Parton says she doesn’t think erecting a monument to her would be appropriate, at least, not right now.

The singer shared a social media message with her fans this week, explaining why she rejected the statue.

“I am honoured and humbled by their intention. But I have asked the leaders of the state legislature to remove the bill from any and all consideration,” Parton tweeted. “Given all that’s going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time.”

“I hope, though, that somewhere down the road several years from now or perhaps after I’m gone; if you still feel I deserve it, then I’m certain I will stand proud in our great State Capitol as a grateful Tennessean,” Parton wrote.

Parton has a solid fanbase and countless admirers for her musical legacy, acting roles and humanitarian work. However, she has especially received praise over the past few years for her advocacy in other areas; particularly after her $1 million donation to COVID-19 research helped towards the development of the Moderna vaccine.
