Ivorian singer, DJ Arafat, has died after a road accident in Abidjan, according to a report by RTI on Monday.
It tweeted, “Death of artist DJ Arafat… today at 8am as a result of a road accident overnight.”
Going by messages and pictures making the rounds on social media, he had been driving a motorbike and smashed into a car. He was taken to a hospital in Abidjan, critically injured, where he later died.
Ivorian Culture Minister Maurice Kouakou Bandaman expressed his condolences and state that a tribute would be organised to honour the musician.
Real name Ange Didier Huon, DJ Arafat was born in Abidjan in 1986. His music enjoyed keen following in French-speaking western and central African countries.
