Nigerian artiste, Davido, has been trending on social media for a 100 million naira challenge where he asked his friends and fans to send 1 million naira each to him for his birthday.
In a video, Davido said, “We rise by lifting others abi? Me I don dey rise dey lifting others for the past 100 years. So, I want to know who my friends are. All of my friends one one million Naira. They said we are 30BG. If you don’t send your own. You out of here. You are gone (sic).”
The multi award winning artist received 7 million naira in the first ten minutes after sending the video. Since he posted the video, Davido has gotten about N155m.
In reaction, singer, Cynthia Morgan, now known as Madrina, posted a series of statements on her Instagram story. She wrote,
“I have always known Davido’s fans to ignorant and unintelligent since 2016. So I am not surprised at your foolery. If you have to compel people to celebrate you, it means there is nothing to be celebrated. If you really rose by lifting others and you’re asking for 1 meter publicly then your boys are ungrateful. Make all of una lock up. Poor things.”
Many celebrities have proceeded to send the star money. They include Poco Lee, Rema, Fireboy, Peruzzi and even brands like Munch it, Travel beta and others.
